Bethany, Patient of Dr. Hart
I had the RNY gastric bypass surgery. I was 330 pounds and a size 28 at my biggest, and more importantly, I was at risk of diabetes and struggled with a multitude of health issues. Since the surgery, I have lost over 200 pounds and have no underlying health complications as I did and have embraced healthy living. I’m now at a size 12 and I have not received any plastics so far. My life is forever changed for the better. I’m finally able to live again and have a true quality of life and not just exist. I am glad I trusted Atlanta Bariatrics with my care and my life.

I hail from Memphis and am a married father with three adult sons who now resides in the Atlanta metro area. To date, I have lost 245 lbs, and I am taking full advantage of my second chance on life by living out my wildest dreams and enjoying life. I’ve lost a total of 65 pounds. While this might seem trivial to some, it’s been a major accomplishment for me after struggling with thyroid issues and trying so many things that just didn’t work. Now, I feel absolutely amazing—healthier, stronger, and more confident than I’ve felt in years. Thank you again fDr. Hart for all the support you’ve provided throughout this journey.
Eddie, Patient of Dr. Hart
Having struggled my entire adult life with the cycle of fad diets and constant weight fluctuations, I finally found lasting success through Bariatric surgery at Atlanta Bariatrics just six months ago. Under the incredible care of Dr. Hart and his compassionate staff, I’ve already lost over 90 pounds in the past six months and feel more amazing than ever. This journey has been truly transformative, giving me renewed energy, confidence, and a sustainable path to health. I’m deeply grateful for the support and expertise that made this life-changing experience possible.

I wasn't concerned about getting older. My 65th birthday was coming up and I knew this was a major milestone and I was ready to celebrate. But what I WAS concerned about was turning 65 and weighing 265lbs. After much soul searching and research, and having the good fortune to have someone very close to me who has been through this surgery, I decided that while I couldn't stop the aging process, I COULD take control of my health. Like so many others, I had several comorbidities: pre-diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. So, I made my way to Atlanta Bariatrics and began the process to improve my health and the quality of my life.
I had gastric sleeve surgery on July 22, 2024 and I am now almost 4 months post op and my current weight is 220lbs totaling a weight loss of 45lbs - and I'm not done yet! I'm off of one of my blood pressure medications and will probably be off the other one soon. My cholesterol levels are now within normal range and my thyroid medication has been reduced. I turned 65 recently and I'm feeling the best I have in so many years and I don't mind at all looking in the mirror either. This surgery was my birthday gift to myself. I wasn't too old, it wasn't too late and life is good!
From the beginning right up until now, I couldn't be happier with Dr. Johnson’s skills, expertise and experience and his wonderful staff. The pre-op and post-op care is unrivaled and top shelf. Thank you Dr. Johnson, Leslie, Heather and your entire staff at Atlanta Bariatrics!
Cicely, Patient of Dr. Johnson
Working with Dr. Johnson and his team has been wonderful! You are told upfront what is required of you for surgery and how to best utilize your tool and they are always there to answer any and all questions. The best thing I did prior to surgery is start preparing for what life will look like now. I started tracking my foods, doing some sort of body movement daily, and increasing my water intake. There are no quick fixes to better health, but having the Gastric Sleeve is an incredible tool that can help you meet any and all goals if you just take advantage of it! The surgery itself was not as hard as I had thought it would be, there is discomfort and pain directly after surgery, but it does dissipate and as long as you continue to move your body the pain goes away. Ultimately, I would not change a thing about the surgery, doctor, or team I chose! The process was easy and has helped me continue a path to healthier living, doing more of what I have always loved to do, and feeling better in my clothes and body.
John, Patient of Dr. Johnson
I am 6 months post-op and right at 85 pounds down. I haven't weighed this in over 40 years. I'm off of ALL cardiac, blood pressure and diabetes meds. My A1c is 5.4. I've been blessed that the journey has been a breeze...AFTER...I became honest with myself. Don't kid yourself into thinking "I can eat that cake or candy bar"...you'll quickly discover what you actually can and can't eat on your own. Stick with the meal planning and most if not all "side effects" WILL be minimal. I've never felt this good
Elizabeth, Patient of Dr Johnson
I’m 53 lbs down and couldn’t feel better. I have so much energy and feel like a new person. Thank you so much Dr Johnson and staff. I can’t thank you enough for changing my life!
Cindy, Patient of Dr. Johnson
Since April 2024, I’ve been on an incredible journey, losing 60 pounds and reclaiming my health through the gastric sleeve procedure. Finding Dr. Johnson, Mallory, and their amazing team has truly been life-changing. From day one, they’ve walked me through every step, offering unparalleled support, guidance, and answers to all my questions. Their dedication, responsiveness, and encouragement made this journey not only possible but also enjoyable. Dr. Johnson and his team have been there for me in every way, making me feel seen, heard, and understood. They didn’t just support my weight loss—they gave me the tools to start a new, healthier life.
Donna, Patient of Dr. Hart
My name is Donna and I am 47 years old. I had RNY surgery, June 7th 2021. Dr Hart and his office staff were amazing! My heaviest weight was 431 pounds. The morning of surgery, I weighed 403 pounds. I currently weigh between 199-205 pounds (depending on the day). I am 6 ft tall. When I first started this journey, I could not climb a flight of stairs without getting winded. Life has totally changed for me! It's never too late to change your life. You won't regret it!
Kelsey, Patient of Dr. Johnson
My story is a little different from most, and I’m hoping that by sharing this, others who have faced similar battles may feel less alone.
When I was younger, I experienced abuse. In the aftermath of that trauma, I started using food as a way to protect myself. I wasn’t an emotional eater in the traditional sense, but I ate to build a shield around my body—to make myself unapproachable, unattractive, and ultimately, untouchable. It felt like a layer of protection, keeping anyone who could hurt me at a safe distance.
By the time I reached my early 20s, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, weighing 354 pounds. It was a wake-up call, and it pushed me to start my weight loss journey, initially with the help of Ozempic. Over time, I slowly lost weight and was able to bring my A1C down, but I still lived with diabetes.
Then, in 2018, everything changed. I met my now-husband, and for the first time in my life, I didn’t feel the need to hide behind my shield. He showed me what unconditional love truly feels like—how it can heal wounds that seem impossible to mend. With him, I didn’t need that layer of protection. He became my safe place, my protector.
In early 2023, I decided to take the next step in my journey. I reached out to Dr. William Johnson’s office at Atlanta Bariatrics, after hearing so many amazing stories of his care and success. From the very beginning, his team made everything feel so seamless. They handled the insurance requirements and took care of every detail so that I could focus on my health. Meeting Dr. Johnson confirmed what I had hoped—he listened. He genuinely cared about me and my story.
Given that I have a genetic mutation affecting my platelet count and increasing my risk for infections, Dr. Johnson planned my surgery with extraordinary care. On September 18th, 2023, I had my gastric bypass, and it went off without a hitch.
Today, I stand before you at 174 pounds and free from type 2 diabetes. That shield I once used to protect myself is no longer needed. My journey has been one of healing, not just physically but emotionally and mentally as well.
To anyone who has ever felt trapped behind their own shield—there is hope. There is healing. And you don’t have to walk this path alone. My shield is retired. And I’m standing in the light.
Thank you so much, Mallory. To you, Dr. Johnson and Dr. Johnsons team entirely. You've helped me get back to me.
Teresa, Patient of Dr. Johnson
I have lost 75 pounds so far
Melanie, Patient of Dr. Hart
At the time of the "before" picture in August 2023, I was approximately 300 lbs and a size 30/32. I was pre-diabetic and my blood pressure was consistently high. I began preparing for surgery with Atlanta Bariatrics in October 2023, and by the time of surgery in February 2024 I was at 265 lbs. Almost all of my pre surgery weight loss was lost just by following the dietitian's suggestion of removing carbonated beverages from my diet! Now, it is October 2024, and I have lost over 100 lbs from when I started 12 months ago. I am now wearing a size 14/16, no longer pre-diabetic, and my blood pressure is well within normal range. The Atlanta Bariatrics team has been so supportive of me from the very beginning; I think Dr. Hart was happier about my improved blood work results than I was (and I was really happy)! I still feel like I have a ways to go on my journey, but with the surgery and the lessons I've learned over the past year, I finally feel like I have a chance at achieving and maintaining a healthy weight. Thank you, Atlanta Bariatrics!
Dylan, Patient of Dr. Johnson
Having this surgery was probably the best decision I have ever made, I am still young and I realized I did not want to live with health issues. I had surgery on June 10th 2024 and at my 3 month follow up I was down 62 Lbs, it has been life changing not just physical but also in many other aspects. I am now halfway through my journey and trying to be consistent with my new habits.
Dr. Johnson was wonderful, he had important conversations with me, he walked me through all the process. He answered the questions with honesty and was upfront and that was very helpful in me making the decision to do it. Very thankful with Atlanta Bariatrics.
Afrika, Patient of Dr. Johnson
Like most people. I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life. I would lose a few pounds then end up starting all over. In 2019 I had made up my mind a year before my 40 birthday that I would give it my all and practice good habits. And I successfully lost 70 pounds! Unfortunately a few months later, Covid began and I was furloughed from my job. Unsure of how life would be. I spiraled back into old habits. I had come to my whits end and decided that having surgery would be the kick starts I needed as well as have the best chance for long term success. I began my research and found Dr. Johnson with outstanding reviews, I knew that I had found the surgeon perfect for me. The support from the entire staff exceeded my expectations. If you’re considering WLS or have decided. This is the experience you’re looking for. I’m so grateful to them.
Julie, Patient of Dr. Hart
I have struggled with my weight on and off for approx 13 years now. After having my son, I reached my heaviest weight of 334 lbs. Diet and exercise alone did not seem to help, I continued to gain weight. After meeting with Dr. Hart I decided gastric bypass was the best decision for me. Dr. Hart was very thorough, and put my mind at ease about the procedure. I now weigh 209lbs, with a total loss of 125lbs in a 1 year span. I feel great, and have more energy. Following the plan and seeing results makes all the difference.
Jenny, Patient of Dr. Johnson
I included a pic from my first trip in 2015 to Jamaica (on the left) at my heaviest weight approximately 290 pounds and one from this trip (on the right) at 180 lbs. Turning 50 was scary for me. I wasn’t so sure I’d make it as my mother and grandmother did not. I’ve struggled with my weight my entire adult life especially after having a total hysterectomy. I knew the only way I would make it to 50 was to take my health more seriously. Everything I had always done to lose weight was no longer working for me. When my insurance changed, and I learned gastric sleeve surgery would be covered. I made an appointment with Dr. Johnson immediately. It was the best decision I have ever made regarding my health. I am one year out and down 90 lbs from my day of surgery weight of 269, and 110 lbs down overall from my heaviest adult weight. My goal is another 10 however, if I don’t lose another pound, I am extremely happy with where I am.
Myra, Patient of Dr. Hart
In 2018, I met with Dr. Christopher Hart for WLS consultation, I kept putting off the surgery and continued gaining weight. Finally in 2023, with major co-morbidity’s, having the gastric bypass was a decision made to extend my life and honestly the best decision I ever made. I don’t know what took me so long. My journey from 233 lbs to 122 lbs would not be possible without Atlanta Bariatrics. My life and relationship with food has forever been changed and I thank Dr Hart, his nurse Becca, and dietitians! They have made this experience the greatest from pre surgery to also having the absolute best aftercare.
Samantha, Patient of Dr. Johnson
Wow what an incredible 3 months. There has been a rollercoaster of emotions but I’m 63 lbs down as of today and Each day I see myself transforming into a better me. It’s become easier to go out and be active with my kids and I found a love of working out through Peloton. I am looking forward to what the future holds now that I have This new health and love of exercise. It is a remarkable feeling that I never thought I would see again. I couldn’t be more happy to be on this journey. I am thankful to Dr Johnson and his team and all the support staff along the way for helping me to begin this journey and take back the control over my health.
Catalina, Patient of Dr. Hart
“After 35 years of yo-yo dieting, I came across a PCP that encouraged me to explore weight loss surgery. Atlanta Bariatrics was not my first option. I was extremely discouraged after visiting another very well-known hospital in the area because I was made to feel embarrassed and ashamed of my weight, as if I was not scared enough to start the process. Coming to Atlanta Bariatrics, meeting Dr. Hart and his team was a breath of fresh air. I needed to normalize weight loss surgery as a treatment option for obesity as a chronic disease. Following Dr. Hart’s advice and trusting his expertise was one of the best choices I made in this journey.
It has been almost 6 years since my gastric bypass and I lost 111lbs. I would say, that what I am most proud of is keeping the weight off. I cannot say the journey has been complicated; it has been quite simple as a matter of fact. Consistency has been the key for me.
I have stuck with my annual follow ups and I rarely step on the scale. I work out regularly. I enjoy mostly all foods, but my restriction is still there. This is a forever journey but I have an amazing tool that has worked wonders for me, and I couldn’t have done it without Dr. Hart and his team..”
Vicki, Patient of Dr. Johnson
My weight before was 267 and now I’m 185 down 82 pounds. I was on the fence on having the surgery and now I’m so happy that I did. I feel AMAZING!!! Best decision I have ever made for myself.
Jennifer, Patient of Dr. Hart
After years of being overweight and focusing on my career I had enough. I decided to research options and later scheduled the appointment with Dr. Hart. From the 1st appointment the entire team was supportive, encouraging and very organized. I traveled hours so the efficiency and effectiveness meant a lot! After lots of hard work, determination, and commitment, here I am almost 5 years later!
Sheri, Patient of Dr. Johnson
I started my journey in 2019 after feeling hopeless that my weight was so far gone. I had a family member that was a patient at Atlanta Bariatrics and I was amazed at her progress. I scheduled my consultation and it was the best decision ever. I’ve lost 100 pounds and maintained a healthy weight for 5 years now. I love that my dietician and MD work hand in hand to ensure my success. I have a new outlook on life and am so thankful to Dr Johnson and the staff at Atlanta Bariatrics for changing my life. My only regret was waiting so long! I’m loving life!
September, Patient of Dr. Hart
Doing this surgery was the absolute best decision for my life and my future. I have lost 78 pounds so far. Thank you, Atlanta Bariatrics, for all you do and for your continued support and care!
Abbie, Patient of Dr. Hart
The sleeve changed my life for the better! I am forever thankful for Dr. Hart and his team for turning my life around. I have struggled with my weight all my life and was ready to make a permanent change. While the weight loss surgery hasn’t been easy, it’s been SO rewarding! I have more energy, can do things I haven’t been able to in YEARS and overall feel great again. I have PCOS and was borderline pre-diabetic. This surgery has turned my life around and I am so happy! I would do this surgery over and over again. Dr. Hart and his team truly care about their patients and make sure you are supported through every step of the process. I had the best experience at Atlanta Bariatrics and would recommend them to everyone! If you are on the fence about the surgery, this is your sign to do it!!
Dana, Patient of Dr. Hart
I’ve struggled with weight all my life. I was a chronic yoyo dieter, always trying the latest fad. They never worked of course. As an adult, I was diagnosed with PCOS, hypothyroidism, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and high cholesterol. by the time I was 40, I was on seven prescriptions and always felt exhausted and miserable. I became determined to make a change and get off the meds. I had VSG six months ago and down 50 pounds so far. I am off all diabetic meds and my A1c is “normal”!! I only take two prescriptions now! I am on my way to reaching my goal of better health by working out and logging everything I eat. I feel better than ever, who knew I would have so much energy?! I am so very grateful for Dr. Hart and his team. Not only is he an incredibly brilliant and talented doctor (using the latest technology for the procedure which I love!), but he is also kind and patient with my anxious questions. My advice to anyone considering this: Do it! My only regret is waiting till I was 50 years old!
Ashley, Patient of Dr. Hart
I made the decision to change my life in the autumn of 2021, and by April 1, 2022, I was in the operating room. I weighed in at 280 pounds and had multiple health issues that were preventing me from living the life I wanted to live. I am a special education early childhood teacher, and I couldn’t run and play with my students, I couldn’t dance and sing without getting drenched in sweat and completely winded, and just walking was painful. My husband and I are planning to adopt, and the last thing I wanted was to become another statistic by having a heart attack and leave my family without a mother. I wanted so much more for my life than I was giving myself.
So, here I am, almost 2.5 years later, and I am down to 145 lbs. When I heard Dr. Hart say at my 2 year check up, “You’re at an ideal weight,” I almost fell out of my chair. I feel stronger, more active, and healthier than I have since I was a child. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my husband, my family, my counselor, and ALL of the people at Atlanta Bariatrics. I feel so incredibly lucky to have found a practice that supports you every step of the way and continues to do so for the rest of your life. Having spoken with others who have had the surgery elsewhere, I found out that this is not the norm.
This journey has not been easy, and it continues to be hard work, but I wouldn’t change it for anything.
Kimberly, Patient of Dr. Hart
I have lost a total of 120lbs going from 293lbs down to 170lbs. The choice was not easy, but the process was. The journey is not easy as it is ongoing, but I would not change one moment. The rewards have been priceless.
Gordon, Patient of Dr. Hart
I have been holding steady overall weight, but putting on more muscle mass. I will say my biggest regret is not doing this sooner. I have always been pretty active, never could see any significant weight loss that stayed long term. This is the lowest I have been since high school; my highest weight was 305 and I’m now down to 206 and love mirrors again.
Venus, Patient of Dr. Johnson
16 years ago, I was spiraling down a dark rabbit hole with how much weight I had gained. I wasn't always struggling with it. As a young girl, I was always petite but after my 2nd child, things went down fast. I started gaining and losing, you know, the whole yo-yo dieting thing. I tried EVERY diet/weight loss program I could find and while they would work, it was always temporary. The weight would come back and then some. I exercised all the time but it didn't move the scale. I was just a somewhat in shape overweight woman. Every doctor visit described me as a "morbidly obese female" and every doctor recommended I lose weight. Like I didn't know! It was so hard to lose and I finally had to take a hard look at myself. I had to finally admit that I have serious issues with food and I need help. I heard about Bariatric procedures but didn't know what would be best for me. I found Dr. Johnson's name from a google search and made the appointment for a consultation. BEST.DECISION.I.EVER.MADE. At the time, the Lapband was the best option for me. Dr. Johnson took the time to explain what his part was and what my part would be. The one thing he told me that I think about to this very day: The Lapband is NOT a cure, it is a TOOL. And he was/continues to be 100% correct. In my first year after the surgery I lost about 90lbs. Are you kidding me!!! Everything started working but only AFTER I put the work in. I started feeling better, sleeping better, eating better, looking better and my mind was clear. Over the years, I have kept the majority of the weight off. When menopause came along, I gained about 25lbs over a year or so. It scared me! I didn't not want to go back to that dark place. So I refocused and lost the 25lbs. It took longer to lose but I attribute that to massive hormonal changes. I continue to see Dr. Johnson even now mostly because he genuinely cares about my progress and whether I'm up a few pounds or down, he ALWAYS encourages me and supports my efforts. He's even told me that I am one of his most successful Lapband patients to date! That still feels good when he tells me that! I can't say enough about Dr. J and his staff. It's the best judgement free doctors office!! The support is 2nd to none and I have had friends that I referred to him that went with him for the same thing and they are just as happy. I can't say enough good things and have ZERO negative things to say. I am so thankful for my Lapband and truly changed my entire life!.
Beth, Patient of Dr. Johnson
I started at 290 and am now 155 pounds. My biggest wins are that I am off all heart meds- blood pressure and beta blocker, and I can now cross my legs. I also enjoy walking now as I no longer get out of breath!
Gia, Patient of Dr. Johnson
I started at 225 pounds. I work out four days a week (Tuesday through Friday) wait 30 minutes before drinking after each meal, and strive to maintain a healthy diet
Chris and Alex, Patients of Dr. Johnson
We are so thankful for Dr. Johnson, the dietitians, and Atlanta Bariatrics for helping us on this weight loss journey. The support, care, and results have made this easily the best decision of both of our lives. Going through the process together has been such a blessing. We are thrilled with all the progress we have made together!
Luis, Patient of Dr. Johnson
So my journey has been a crazy one. About a week prior to surgery, my wife of 23 years filed for divorce. I had to do the surgery and recovery on my own. But I was determined. All I can say is thank goodness I did it, and I did not wait any longer. When I say it has changed my life, it doesn't explain it enough. Of course I lost weight, but what the weight loss has meant is even more beneficial. Gone are my health concerns...high blood pressure...gone. High cholesterol....gone. Type 2 Diabetes...gone. Sluggish and always tired feeling....gone. Even beyond the medical, there has been an amazing physical transformation. I have been on multiple flights, no longer needing a seatbelt extension. I have been to shows at the theater without the armrest digging into my sides. Those simple things have been great, but being physically able to do things has been life changing. I recently went to the Cliffs of Moher in Ireland. I approached a split in the road. On the right, about 150 steps to the top...on the left, no steps, but a hill with the same elevation. Prior to surgery I would have stayed right where I was feeling defeated by the insurmountable physical requirement for either side. Instead, I looked at the steps and just went on my way without hesitation. When I got to the top of the steps, I looked out at this amazing view and took it all in for a minute. Then I decided that I should see what it looked like from the other side. I climbed down the steps and began the climb of the left side. It was an incredible view, but more, for me, an incredible testament to the hard work and the new person I had become since the surgery. Since then I have been on a seaplane, a cruise, a helicopter ride and skydiving (both activities that my previous weight disqualified me from doing). Food used to be the reason for travel, and now the activities and memories I create are the reasons with food just being a bonus. I wish I had the surgery sooner. I am not saying it would have saved my marriage, but the person I came out with after the surgery is definitely someone I feel better about.
Ed, Patient of Dr. Johnson
It saved my life. I'm down 160 lbs in a year and have been more active than ever. I am getting out and about much more easily, and this is the new normal.
Rob, Patient of Dr. Johnson
My goal was to lose 90 lbs. I've lost 95 lbs and maintained it for 3 months now. Maintenance is as easy as the initial loss. Dr. Johnson and his great staff had answers and great support the whole time. The Baritastic app has been a big help to keep me on track.
My before picture was at 315 lbs and the after was 220 lbs. I highly recommend this practice.
Valerie, Patient of Dr. Johnson
Dr. Johnson has truly changed my life, and I hope that my story can help others realize it’s not too late. Being 35 when I had my surgery, I thought I was too late and had waited too long… or that I was too far gone. Dr Johnson helped me get my life back, as well as the love for myself.
Carrie, Patient of Dr. Johnson
I have struggled with obesity my entire adult life, but in March of 2023 my life took a turn in a better direction. After a hospital scare in February 2023, I decided that enough was enough and I reached out to Atlanta Bariatrics. From the very beginning of my journey, the team at Atlanta Bariatrics assured me that this would be possible but not necessarily easy. I completed all the requirements and my Sleeve surgery was performed by Dr. Johnson on July 10, 2023. At my highest weight I was 409 pounds, I have currently lost 222 pounds and I am very close to my goal weight. This journey has a beginning but it will never have an end because I will strive everyday to be better, healthier and happier than the day before with the help of my caring friends at Atlanta Bariatrics. I am so thankful for my new life!

Overall, the experience with the gastric bypass surgery has been excellent
Mike, Patient of Dr. Hart
I started at 390 pounds and am now down to 263, losing 127 pounds so far. I can't be more grateful to Dr. Hart and his team for helping me get healthier. I was prediabetic, on several different meds for high blood pressure, and had a really hard time getting around. Getting the sleeve was the best thing I have ever done - no more threat of diabetes, down to one very small dose for blood pressure, and I have a lot more energy. I couldn't be happier with the results!
Cleshea, Patient of Dr. Hart
Last time I weighed myself I was down to 205lbs, which means I have lost about 65 pounds since surgery. I try to not get obsessed with the scale and weigh myself once every couple of weeks. Currently, I have taken up going to my local park and doing the trails there about 3-4 times a week, traveling, and doing fun events like Dragon Con. I have changed my diet and feel so much better eating lighter foods like fruit and salad. I am happy with my results and as I long as I stay active, I continue to lose weight every month
Kelli, Patient of Dr. Hart
I started out at 290lbs, and I have lost HALF my original body weight. I did not like the way I looked at that weight and decided I would get in the gym to build muscle. In December of 2021, I had a medical reaction and was put on steroids to help with breathing; which unfortunately led to me not being able to maintain my daily workout routine. Also, being on the steroids, I wouldn't eat what I knew I should eat in fear of overeating... I gained 75 pounds in almost a month and a half. I decided in March of 2022 that I would get back on track, and reviewed through everything I did at the beginning of this surgery, and I am happy to report that I was able to lose that 75 pounds in less than a year and have maintained that weight loss.
My favorite memory of this journey was the day that my 8-year-old hugged me and said "Look mommy, I can put my arms ALL the way around you now
Candis, Patient of Dr. Hart
I am so glad I trusted Atlanta bariatrics with my health and my future. Dr. Hart was an amazing surgeon. The whole team made this possible for me. They gave me a wonderful tool to get myself back healthy. When I came to them, I was on blood pressure medication, borderline diabetic, high cholesterol not to mention not having much energy at the age of 30. I didn’t want to live that kind of life. I am now at a 150 lbs. I work out 4 times a week and enjoy going on walks. I have changed my relationship with health as a whole and I truly owe this team all the praise! You all were so pleasant to work with and have helped me every step of the way. Thank you keep continuing the great work and changing people’s lives.

My challenges with weight have been lifelong from when I was quite young. When I got my surgery at 41 years old, I had tried every magic pill, fad diet, shake, fasting, you name it. The weight would always come off, but would creep back on overtime. After my second child, I reached my highest weight of 255. I was always in a bad mood, insecure, and unable to keep up with my two littles. Always hiding behind a smile as the funny, charming one, with a “pretty face”, I wanted more. It was a very hard decision to have this surgery, but once I met Dr. Hart and his team, I knew it was the right choice for me. Since having my surgery in 2021, I have true happiness. The confidence I have gained has allowed multiple opportunities to surface. With hard work, perseverance, and support of Dr Hart and his team, alongside my family and friends, I am now the real Carolina. My true personality shines through. I continue to stand by my motto in life “You can only go as far as you push.” It’s not always an easy journey, but it’s my journey.
Jessica, Patient of Dr. Hart
After struggling with my weight for 20 years and trying all of the possible avenues to lose the weight, deciding to have weight loss surgery was eventually where I ended up. This has been the 3rd best decision of my life, only 3rd to marrying my husband and having my children. It has been life changing and allowed me more possibilities than I even thought possible. Dr. Hart and his staff are like family, so kind, helpful, and made the process easier than I ever believed it would be. Thank you for everything! I am looking forward to my new life!
Samuel, Patient of Dr. Johnson
I remember icing my knees through the day, just to get through the competition. Carrying that weight was brutal and exhausting and it hurt so much. 425lbs was my top weight, my lowest like 185, but I stay below 225 as a rule. When/if my pants start getting tight, I focus on what Atlanta Bariatrics taught me, get my water in, watch my proportions, and eat healthier…and I try to ensure I am getting my exercise in.
I standup paddle board race for my main activity, try to train at least 4 times a week and end my season in the end of October with a 31 mile Chattajack race down the Tennessee river. I love Dr Johnson, my dietitian, and the whole office crew, I could name many past and present. They enabled me to change my life for the good, get healthier, much healthier and enjoy my work, family, pets and friends so much more. My quality of life is so much better. I look forward to my annual visits with Atlanta Bariatrics. I love seeing everyone and showing them their good work, years and years later….12 so far.
Rester, Patient of Dr. Hart
My story/journey started back in 2021, I was doing everything that I could to lose weight and seems like nothing was working, being that I have been a Christian man the majority of my life I prayed and asked God for help and he put everything in place from beginning to end. After a successful surgery now was the hard part. "The work" and I can say that it has not been easy but I lost 100lbs going from 280lbs to 177lbs, I have since put on some weight but definitely not back above 200lbs, so in closing it takes faith, dedication, hard work, and a great support group you can go to discuss your ups and down, but you can do it just like I have been. I hope that this inspires someone and GOD bless you.
Nancy, Patient of Dr. Hart
I have struggled with my weight most of my adult life with my highest weight reaching 270 and a 24 my largest clothing size. I knew that in my early 60s, my weight and my
age were on a dangerous collision course leading to some very poor health outcomes.
I had to make a change, and I am so thankful for the work of the entire team at Atlanta Bariatrics for making that change possible.
I have lost 122 pounds and now wear a size 10-12. Having gastric bypass surgery has given me the tool to control my eating and has taken my mind’s focus on food away. In
one of my first meetings with Dr. Hart, he told me that it was important to realize that being overweight was not some kind of personal failing, but a complicated medical issue.
This was eye opening for me because I had spent much of my life thinking that I just
lacked the will to lose weight. The difference now is that I am confident that I have the
tools to never regain the weight.
Jonnie, Patient of Dr. Hart
My journey begins from an early age of being picked on because I have always been an overweight person. My grandmother always said you needed extra meat on your bones in case you ever got sick.
It wasn’t a great feeling to be overweight with other kids constantly picking on you. It did some to my self-confidence. I never felt like anyone wanted to get to know me. Once I started having several medical issues by the time I was an adult I still wasn’t comfortable with the body I was in. I felt like I only have one life so why not do something to help my health issues and finally feel good about the way I looked.
I knew right away that I wanted gastric bypass surgery. I didn’t care about the risks. I just knew this surgery was for me and I had to have it to finally be comfortable for ME. For those that didn’t bother wanting to know me or picked on me when I was growing up its ok because I didn’t do it first them. If they didn’t talk and hangout with me then, I’m not looking to hang out with them now. The people that loved me before having the surgery are the same people that are still on this journey with me now. I hate working out!!! That’s hadn’t changed, but when I see that scale going in the wrong way, I get my butt up and get active.
My diabetes is so much better. Just taking one pill. My chronic kidney disease is now stage 2 instead of stage 3. My husband passed away before he got to see this journey. He was right there when I made the decision to have the gastric bypass surgery. He was the most loving and kind and understanding husband. He said I had to do what made me happy.
I’ve been skydiving and zip lining. After losing my husband suddenly I realized that I only have one life and fear is not going to control anything I want to do or accomplish. I couldn’t believe a surgery would make me so outgoing and be able to speak in front of people. Not everyone knows I had the surgery. It’s not a secret. Some people believe that I took the easy route for losing weight. Trust me this hasn’t been easy. I’m just determined to be the best and healthier person for my son now that he only has one parent living.
Everyone has to do what’s best for them. If anyone ever wants to talk to me about the surgery or eat and workout with me that would be awesome. Trust me I still call the dietitians for advice on what to eat and not to eat. It’s a journey and they are there to make sure I continue to succeed. They are on this journey with me for life!! There is a whole world out there to live and enjoy. Let’s get this journey started!!
Alyson, Patient of Dr. Hart
When I started, I was 390 pounds. I had the gastric sleeve last year with Dr. Hart. I work out consistently now at Body20 (East Cobb). I stopped measuring food. I am just doing my best with the information I have learned at Atlanta Bariatrics and overcoming my food addiction, and am now down to 236 and get to enjoy going on rides now with my family and zip lining
Tricia, Patient of Dr. Johnson
We all have a story. Mine is one of years marked by infertility, depression, and isolation. Each miscarriage deepened my despair and sense of isolation, with food becoming my sole source of comfort. Reaching a weight of 303 pounds was my breaking point. I was pre-diabetic, my joints ached, and I felt far from the life I believed God had intended for me.
Turning things around required a team effort. With the support of Dr. Johnson, his nurse Heather, the dedicated staff, dietitians Megan and Leslie, and my family, I received the tools I needed to take this journey. My counselor played a crucial role in helping me untangle the emotional connections I had with food.
Today, I have lost 97 pounds, shedding not just weight but also the emotional baggage I carried. My journey is ongoing, but with continued support and determination, I am living a healthier, more fulfilling life.
Britney, Patient of Dr. Johnson
The picture on the left was a few weeks before surgery. I was 253 and I am now 175. I am down 75lbs and was down nearly all of that weight in the first 6 months. I have also been able to maintain it. I workout 3-4 times a week by doing Barre, Strength Training and walking. I have been an athlete my entire life and I was in the Navy, but always struggled with my weight. When I got out of the Navy, I fell into a depression which led to weight gain. This ultimately led to more depression and feeling sorry for myself. Making the decision to get the sleeve was the absolute best thing I have done for myself. I feel good mentally and emotionally, I am learning how to fuel my body properly and not stress too much over counting calories or tracking macros. I really take it day by day and listen to what my body needs. Dr. Johnson made this process so incredibly easy and really made me confident in my decision!
Michelle, Patient of Dr. Hart
After struggling with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, PCOS, GERD, obesity, and an insurance issue with a GLP-1 medication, I realized that gastric bypass surgery was the best option for me. These conditions not only affected my physical health but also my quality of life and overall well-being. Despite my best efforts with diet and exercise, I needed a more effective solution to regain control over my health. Weight loss surgery provided me with the opportunity to address these serious health issues, improve my lifestyle, and achieve a healthier future. I am almost four months post op and feel the best I have felt in decades!
Brian, Patient of Dr. Hart
I started out at 389 pounds. Dr Hart wanted me to have a bypass to begin with, but I wanted to choose to do a sleeve against his advice. I just underwent a gastric bypass and am now 232 and still going. I would listen to Dr. Hart for the best outcome.
Shanisha, Patient of Dr. Hart
There was a time in my life when I was my heaviest of 310. I had so many health issues. Pre-diabetes, sleep apnea, insomnia, hypothyroidism, and other hormonal issues. I tried working out to lose weight. Because of my respiratory and hormonal issues, I was unable to successfully lose weight. I was blessed to find Dr. Hart with Atlanta Bariatrics. I had to spend the first 4 months learning how to think and eat differently. We started a workout regimen. They stressed that the gastric bypass was a tool, but it was up to me to do the work. It was a long process before I could even be scheduled for service. They wanted to set me up for success. My team was amazing before and after my surgery. It is 2.5 years later and I am 140lbs. The day of my surgery I was down to 286lbs. I have lost 170lbs total since working with Atlanta Bariatrics. Because I have followed their program, I have not had the complications that some have when going through other places to have this surgery. I have a 95lb German shepherd and I jog 3.5 miles with her every day. I never thought that I would be able to jog again. My quality of life is 150 times better. I actually feel like my life has been prolonged by the grace of God. Listening to my team at Atlanta Bariatrics, I did not experience hair loss or much loose skin. I love that this practice pushes us for a total lifestyle change. I am cautious about what I eat. I love this practice. Thank you so much to Dr. Hart, Rebecca Lore, and the entire team at Atlanta Bariatrics. I thank God for you being there to give me my life back.
Leonor, Patient of Dr. Hart
Last year I decided that it was time to take control of my health and make changes so that I could LIVE and not just exist. I have been overweight for most of my adult life so I knew that it was going to require a drastic lifestyle change in order to turn things around for my health. Dr Hart, Rebecca, Mallory and the team at Atlanta Bariatrics were amazing and supportive throughout the entire process. I am so glad that I had gastric bypass surgery because it has changed my life!!!
Shelby, Patient of Dr. Hart
It’s hard to know where to start. There’s so much I want to say but I’m also so speechless to how grateful I am of this journey. Some days I can’t believe it’s real and that I am doing it, I did it. Thanks to Mallory, Beca and Dr. Hart- the literal dream team. I started considering weight loss surgery back in March of last year. After my initial visit, I was still on the edge of “I’m really not sure I can do this!” Although, I kept going through the check list, the dietitian visits, and psychologist visit as well as other testing I had to complete prior to surgery. I started doing more and more research. While surgery scared me, not knowing where I’d be without it in 10 years scared me more! I was ecstatic to book October for my surgery date. Everything went so smoothly, I am still in awe of the fact I showed up at 7am and was home by 11am walking around. The first few weeks were tough for me-it was a reality check. I was so used to eating my feelings and I wasn’t doing that anymore. I started at 320 pounds. As of today, I am down to 232! I am able to go to the gym, move more freely, and walk faster. Another win! People comment on how great I look but it’s so much more than that to me. My mental health is so much better and my chronic pain/flares have gotten tremendously better! Showing up for yourself is key. Putting yourself first sometimes is not selfish. If we don’t take care of ourselves, we won’t be able to take care of others, is how I look at it these days
Polly, Patient of Dr. Hart
That is me weighing 450 pounds. I am 16 months post-op and I went from a 28 jeans that I could barely button and 4x top to 16 jeans and 1x top (though I usually wear 2x so it’s loose). I can fit in chairs with arms. I don’t need a seatbelt extender anymore. I can shop in normal stores instead of specialty stores. I am living life. Just a friendly reminder that everyone’s body is different, and everyone’s journey is different. If you see someone’s progress and yours doesn’t look the same, PLEASE do not get discouraged. Remember that your story is yours alone. Stay the course and be thankful for this journey
Jatoyia, Patient of Dr. Hart.
I'm just a busy wife and mom of 3 who decided that it was time to do something for me. This journey challenged me to really understand what self care and self love means. It also forced me to figure out what that looks like on a daily basis. In the end, I found out that it is possible to have healthy habits and lifestyle in the midst of the chaos of motherhood! I'm only 6 months out, so I know there is more work to be done, but everyday, I wake up and choose me and keep steady on my journey... one protein shake at a time!
I have struggled with my weight pretty much since middle school when I discovered that sitting and playing video games and eating pizza was way more fun that exercising. I would use food as a comfort after my parents divorced, and overeating was my biggest problem. I could out eat anyone and was actually proud of it for a while.
I left high school around 230-240 pounds. College lead to more inactivity and more over eating. I hit 300 pounds before graduating in 1996. I had many what should have been rock bottom moments that I ignored and kept on going, fooling myself. I got kicked off the Georgia Scorcher at Six Flags because I didn't fit. The embarrassment of having to walk past all those people should have woken me up, but it didn't. Every time I needed to get new jeans because I had outgrown the ones I had should have woken me up, but it didn't. There was always another guy in our group that was bigger than me, so I could say, "at least I'm not as fat as THAT guy". But then I became "That guy".
I never had the normal health issues associated with my weight. I wasn't diabetic, didn't have high blood pressure, my cholesterol was pretty much on the high range of normal, but not alarming. I was seeing a cardiologist on the regular just in case. I did however have orthopedic problems that were brought on by a combination of my weight and my job. I worked at a vet and was on my feet much of the day plus lifting things that were too heavy and wrestling with dogs did a number on my back and knees. I also had plantar fasciitis but that went away with treatment. I was always embarrassed when I saw pictures of myself and therefore avoided having my picture taken. I got married and had kids and I knew I had to get my stuff together for them. I couldn't participate in sports and such with my kids partly because of my physical limitations, but also and this will sound silly, but because I never could wear the team shirt. They never had my size. I never felt like I belonged, like I was the outsider. I tried all kinds of diets and the gym, but none of it ever worked as I never stuck with it.

Covid hit and I ate a lot to get through it. I maintained my weight around 320-325 for 20 years, but during covid I gained more. At my peak I was 350 pounds. I was wearing 3xl shirts from the big and tall store, size 44 jeans, and slip on shoes because it hurt to bend down to tie my shoes. If that's not sad, I don't know what is.
I play an online game and one of the guys I played with was also super huge. One day, I saw pictures of him and looked completely different. I asked what happened and he said he had gastric bypass surgery. I had always heard about it, and through him, I was able to ask all the questions I ever had about it. He told me the good, the bad and the ugly. He told me about how he stepped onto the step for the exam table at the doctor and the table moved because he was over 400 pounds. He told me that he's now 175 pounds and wearing medium shirts. He told me about protein farts and how the loose skin tacos on your back when you lay on your side. We talked about how much it cost, we talked about how sex was after weight loss, we talked about how it's not the "easy way out". We talked about everything. I decided that surgery was my best and last course of action.
I had a physical and my doctor asked if I had considered weight loss surgery. I almost cried because I knew in my heart, I was ready for it. I was referred to Atlanta Bariatrics and Dr Hart. I had my consult in April and my surgery August. Since then I'm down 105 pounds and feeling awesome. I've got more to go to get to my goal of 200, and I will tell you, it does get frustrating and I've had heaps of set backs, but I'm still here. I go to the gym 4-5 days a week, eat my triple zero yogurts every morning, wear my size 34 pants and my 2 xl shirts that come from a real store, not the big and tall store. I have more energy for my kids and wife and my business, doing voice over work from home.
Surgery isn't for everyone, but it's what has finally worked for me. I don't regret it at all. I'm happy to talk to anyone who is considering it or has been through it and needs a pep talk. Thank you to Dr Hart for being a part of making my life infinitely better.

Ken, Patient of Dr. Johnson
I was living in very poor health, with multiple health problems, and weighing 454 lbs. at age 38 , when I decided to go to a patient seminar for weight loss surgery. I choose Atlanta Bariatrics after meeting and hearing my doctor, William Johnson MD, speak about what weight loss surgery would do for “my health”. I think the focus on the “my health” and not the amount of weight I could lose was the deciding factor for me. He told the group about getting off insulin shots, being able to stop taking cholesterol medication, and no more CPAP/BiPap for sleeping. He could have been speaking just to me, but the message was for the group attending that evening. I met with Dr. Johnson and the Atlanta Bariatrics staff and started my road to “better health”. The staff and my doctor guided me through the process for the pre-surgery, educated me how to live and eat healthy after the surgery, and been there cheering me on to reach my health goals. Today, weighing 223 lbs., I am no longer taking insulin shots, I have stopped taking two types of drugs for cholesterol, and I can get restful sleep without the aid of a machine. I can also enjoy the choices in life to do anything without worrying if my body will be able to do it.
